FOOTBALL CLUB
H
arworth Colliery FC is a fine example of the vital role
that a club is able to play in their local community. We
caught up with their Secretary Jony Wilson to find out more
about the good work that the club has been doing lately.
Involvement
He told us, “I have been Chairman of
the club for the past five seasons but have
been involved in one way or another for
the past 28 years after starting as a Junior
at the age of 10. My dad Tash runs the
Sports and Social Club and ran all the
Junior teams when I was growing up so

it was a natural thing to get involved.
The majority of my Family has had
involvement in the club also in one guise
or another.”
The Role
“I guess the most rewarding thing is
receiving good feedback from opposition
clubs whether that be on the ground or
hospitality as well as seeing good young
players progress through the ranks. The
most challenging thing is getting teams
out week in week out; it’s getting tougher
as the youth of today generally don’t seem
too bothered whether they play or not.”
