Greenock Morton Greenock Morton FOOTBALL CLUB Greenock Morton FC plays their home games at Cappielow Park and their first team currently competes in the Scottish Championship. They are led by Chairman Douglas Rae OBE who is supported by Secretary Antonia Kerr and the club is looking to progress under their guidance. First Team So far this season their first team has been in fine form, having put together a record of thirteen wins, ten draws and seven defeats from their thirty matches. This has left them sitting in third place in the league with forty nine points on the board. They will now be looking to put together a good run of results in their remaining fixtures in order to finish the campaign on a high. They are still in with a chance of claiming promotion and will be determined to take that opportunity. Funeralcare Youth Greenock Morton is not a club to focus solely upon senior football however and this is reflected by the fact that they also run a successful Youth Academy system. The Academy was set up by two ex-players, Warren Hawke and Derek Anderson, to give players a pathway into the first team. It is important for any club looking to be successful over a sustained period of time to be able to produce their own talent and this is an area that they appear to have covered. It will certainly be exciting to see how their youngsters are able to progress over the coming years. Community This is a club that is committed to playing an important role in the local community and this is reflected by the fact that they also have a Community Trust set up. It is a registered charity which aims to use the power of football to deliver a number of projects across the Inverclyde area. The organisation has been operational since March 2013 and has helped to create a healthier and safer region, working closely with partners to provide inclusive programmes that engage people of all ages and abilities. They now have more than 5000 people engaging in their projects on an annual basis. There is clearly much to admire about the fine set up that Greenock Morton currently has in place and this goes beyond the success that they are achieving on the field. If they continue in the same manner they are sure to be able to look forward to a bright and successful future for many years to come.
