Chertsey Town
recent seasons we have done our best to keep the place in a good
state of repair but it does feel like sometimes you are fighting a
losing battle. Our changing rooms are our major concern, having
been built as a temporary structure some twenty years they are
now showing serious signs of wear and tear.
Having spent the summer renewing the roof and floor in
the home changing rooms it now seems like the away changing
rooms are going to need some attention. We have formed a small
committee to look into the prospect of securing funds for new
changing rooms but like everything else that is a long term project.
It would be great if we could build a 4G pitch but that would
be a distant dream, it’s hard going trying to maintain the pitch in
a condition that allows players to express themselves with the ball
and encourages football to be played in the right way.”
Challenges
“I see two main challenges for the next five years; Finance and
Manpower. Money will always be an issue as you can’t expect
players to travel to home and away games plus train once a week
without paying them a small remuneration just to cover their
travel expenses.
Running a football club is no different to running your home;
it needs heat, light and water so there is always a cost so money
needs to be found. Our own committee is of senior years so it
concerns me that not enough new blood is coming along to see
what they can offer with all the best will in the world you are
limited to what you can do and actually want to do!”
Ambitions
“I would love to see a financially secure well run club, not with
a new chairman “flashing the cash”. We’ve been down that road
before and it’s all very short term. It would be great to challenge
for some sort of honours and achieve a top six finish in the league.”
