Stourbridge FOOTBALL CLUB

Stourbridge FC has been enjoying a fine season this time around with their superb run in the FA Cup proving to be a particular highlight . Club Chairman Andy Pountney recently took the time to tell Football Focus Magazine more about the club .
Atmosphere
He told us , “ The atmosphere here is very good , we have recently had a run of injuries that have knocked us back a little , but in general we know what we have to do and feel comfortable and confident that we can get back on track and get back to winning ways .”
This Season
“ The season has been excellent ; we have reached the 3rd round of the FA Cup for the first time in our 140 year history , we unfortunately lost at Wycombe Wanderers FC 2-1 but played very well .
We took an amazing 2300 supporters who all had a fantastic day . We also had a very memorable evening in the 2nd round when beating Northampton Town FC 1-0 at home in front of 2500 supporters .
I do believe that we have still got the title of the most successful team in the FA Cup over the past eight years . Financially it has been a great help again and allows us to continue to develop the clubs infrastructure .”
Plans
“ I would love to win promotion , we are a bit off Blyth Spartans and only if they have a bad run can I see them getting caught . Our target at the start of the season was the play offs and it is in our hands to achieve that . Hopefully we will and hopefully we can achieve promotion . Third time lucky in the play offs , keep our fingers crossed .”
Youth
“ It is very important that we try to develop players , but are finding that the gap between youth and first team is such a big jump , we are trying to look into ways how we can bridge the gap .
We are putting some of our youth team players in with step 5 sides and teaching them adult football , hope fully this will help them in their physical development and help them transition into the first team . We are also in the process of launching an academy that we hope will be another area where we can breach the gap .”
Community
“ We are absolutely a community club . We have again been awarded the FA Charter Standard Community Club which is very important to us . We have twenty three first , youth , ladies , boys and girls teams . We also are a very large supporter of local charity ’ s and over the past few years we can boast the fact the we have helped raise in the region of £ 60,000.00 for various charities .”
