Westbury involved . We encourage our U16 coaches to leave the club and join the Westbury United set-up for at least a season to help the players to integrate and keep an eye on their development .”
Community
“ We are currently a Charter Standard Development Club but we aim to become a Community Club as soon as possible . We are currently reaching out to local companies and encouraging them to come and get involved , we have many ways that we can advertise their products in exchange for small rewards .”
Girls
“ We have three girls ’ teams , an U11 , U14 ’ s and U16 ’ s . The coaches of the girls section do a very good job in recruitment and retention of players as football isn ’ t seen as the priority for young ladies . We have just finished our first season as a Sister Club to Yeovil Town Ladies , we took loads of girls to Yeovil to watch the match in which they won the league , this really inspired some of our girls .”
Challenges
“ The biggest challenge is always finding facilities to train during the dark winter months and to find suitable volunteers to make sure that no one gets overloaded trying to do too much and ends up throwing the towel in .
We need to find some new volunteers to help look after the pitches , our current grounds man , Pete Smart has done an amazing job over the years but it ’ s time that we lightened his load and got some other people o regularly pop down to Redland Lane to carry out Pete ’ s list of 12 weekly chores .”
Ambitions
“ We aim to build a full size 3G pitch in Westbury that Westbury Youth will manage but will be available for teams from the surrounding areas to come and use . This will allow us to keep our grass pitches in top condition for match days and have a clean , floodlit facility to use for top quality training through the week .”
As a local business I was asked if I would like to sponsor a new sign to the entrance to the playing fields . I was more than happy to do so as I ’ m all for the idea of kids being outdoors playing sport . Being a First Aid Training company I thought I could also offer some training and qualifications for the coaching staff as well .
This offer was greatly welcomed by the club and we will be delivering some first aid sports injuries courses for them in the very near future . My granddaughter Abby who is nine years old plays for the club and so I am obviously keen to help ensure people are correctly trained . We specialise in first aid for the Workplace , leisure and accidents at home . For further information please contact us on :
