Wigan Athletic Ladies
Upon arrival at WN1 IT ’ s office , located in the Wigan Investment Centre , there is an air of calm in the office as IT technicians are busy helping customers over the telephones with a friendly and confident tone . The room is simple in layout , looking like a conventional tidy office , nothing like the IT departments full of half dismantled computers scattered around , like we see on TV shows like the IT Crowd .
While waiting for Kevin , the Technical Director , to finish up his call , I speak with Ryan who is one of the technicians . He explains an issue he just resolved with a customer who was having major difficulties accessing their emails . He revealed the difficulty of the fix but he continues to say how speaking to the customer in a manner and language they understand can resolve the issue faster , as well as leave the customer feeling more satisfied .
Ryan quickly showed me a remote control tool that WN1 IT uses to take control of a customer ’ s computer . This tool allows him to see and use a computer anywhere in the world as though he is sat in front of it . When asked if most IT issues are solved with a switch off and on , he laughed .
Speaking to Kevin , we talk about how WN1 IT got involved with Wigan Athletic Ladies Football , ( WALFC ), it started when his daughter came home one day and expressed her desire to play football . She started playing for a boys team as the only girl and after one season , she enjoyed it so much she wanted more match time , which is a common request amongst girls . That ’ s when he searched the local area for a girls team and found WALFC . Having read Flo ’ s story on the club ’ s website ( www . walfc . co . uk ) he felt inspired and his daughter joined the club . WN1 IT became a sponsor at Kevin ’ s request . The girls are now in their 2nd season as a team and WN1 IT continue to be joint sponsors with Eco Air Systems sharing space on the kits .
On the way out of the office we chatted about the changes in IT that he had seen over the 17 years since WN1 IT was established . He mentions the large number of customers WN1 IT have helped to move their systems from a large , noisy cabinet to a powerful and reliable Cloud platform . Kevin expressed how it was an exciting time for IT as many things that were science fiction in films a few years ago are now possible . www . footballfocus . biz 85
