irst established in 1872 , Bury Town FC is one of the oldest clubs in the country with a history dating back over 130 years . They were first founded at a meeting in the Suffolk Hotel by Mr William Lake with the original name of the club being Bury St Edmunds FC .
The first committee at their club chose their colours as Royal Blue which also led to them being nicknamed the ‘ Blues ’ for the duration of their existence . Their current group of players will be keen to add to their proud history over the coming years .
At present , they are based at Ram Meadow on Cotton Lane in Suffolk and their first team competes in the North Division of the Ryman Football League . They are led by the team of Chairman Russell Ward and President Cyril Everett and are looking to progress under their guidance .
So far this season they have put together a solid league campaign , having compiled a record of sixteen wins , five draws and fourteen defeats from their thirty five matches . This has left them sitting in a safe mid-table position with 53 points on the board .
This should provide them with a solid platform from which to build for their future both this season and for the 2017 / 18 campaign . As long as they are able to retain their current group of players and can perhaps make one or two quality additions they should be well set up to push on .
This is not a club to focus solely upon their senior section however and this is reflected by the fact that they also have a thriving youth set up . This part of the club looks to provide young players from the local area with an opportunity to play the game in a safe and enjoyable environment whilst helping them to reach their full potential .
It is important for any club to be able to produce their own talent , particularly in the current financial climate and this is an area they appear to have covered . It will certainly be exciting to see how their youngsters can progress in the coming years .
There is clearly a lot of good work being done at Bury Town and they appear to be a club with everything in place to enable them to look forward to a bright and successful future .
