Hayfield Juniors FOOTBALL CLUB

H

ayfield has a long tradition of senior football dating back to the 1880s when the club was formed by local mill workers . The club flourished through the early part of the 20th century but went into decline and finally folded in 2010 unable to meet its league commitments .
In response to this decline and the inevitable disbanding of the senior team , Hayfield Junior FC was set up in 2008 by Carl Dean and Steve Gerrard . Two dads looking for somewhere local for their boys to play with a vision that by creating a junior club they could grow and sustain another senior team representing the village .
Carl and Steve have been Chairman and Secretary , as well as coaches , since 2008 . The club entered two teams into the Stockport Metropolitan Junior Football League for the 2009 / 10 season . For the
2016 / 17 the village is represented by 11 teams ranging from U5 to U17 .
The club achieved FA Charter Standard status in 2013 and has funded the development to at least FA Level 1 of 20 coaches since 2008 . Football Focus Magazine caught up with Club Chairman Carl Dean to find out more about the club .
He told us , “ The mood in the club is very good at the moment . We are very optimistic about what we can achieve once we ’ ve secured the lease on our pitches . Being a small village club we have a relatively small pool of players .
“ Ability is very mixed but as this is something we have dealt with since day one ; our ethos is based purely on development and helping the children create really strong friendship bonds before anything else . Our only success measure as a club is on participation .
“ Our plans for the rest of the season are for more of the same really . We ’ ve got our presentation day to look forward to as well as the many summer tournaments our children participate in . It ’ s always nice to get winter out of the way .
