arket Drayton Town FC is based at the Greenfields Sports Ground in
Shropshire and their first team currently competes in the First Division South of the Evo-Stik League . They are a fine example of the important role that a club can play in their local community .
Over the years they have put together a history of which they have every right to be proud with plenty of success achieved . Their biggest ever win came in 2009 when they defeated Racing Club Warwick 9-0 on the 10th March .
They have a special affinity with the Shropshire Challenge Cup which they have won on four occasions and took the West Midland Premier Division title in 2005 / 06 . One of their most successful seasons in recent times came when they won a double in 2008 / 09 , winning the Midland Football Alliance and the League Cup .
So far this season the club ’ s first team has put together a steady league campaign having compiled a record of twelve wins , two draws and nineteen defeats from their thirty three matches . This has left them sitting in a safe mid-table position with 38 points on the board .
They will now be looking to put together a good run of form in order to finish as high up the table as possible and also to build momentum heading into the off-season . As long as they are able to retain their current group of players and perhaps make one or two quality additions the club should be well positioned to push on .
This is not a club to focus solely upon their senior section however and this is reflected by the fact that they also have an U21 side . This team looks to give young players an opportunity to play the game in a safe and enjoyable environment whilst helping them to reach their full potential .
It is important for any club looking to be successful over a sustained period of time to be able to produce their own talent and this is an area they appear to have covered . It will certainly be exciting to see how their youngsters progress over the coming years .
There is clearly much to admire about the fine set up that Market Drayton Town currently has in place and hopefully they will continue in the same manner . If they do then they should be able to look forwards to a bright and successful future for many years to come .
