Stoke City Ladies FOOTBALL CLUB

toke City Ladies FC have seen a number of changes in recent times and are now in a good position to build for the future . Football Focus Magazine recently caught up with their Manager Steve Swanwick to find out more about the work they ’ ve been doing lately .
Involvement
He told us , “ Whilst I was manager of Rocester FC , a semi-professional male club in the Midland Alliance , my daughter started playing football for a local boys ’ team . She was scouted and invited to go for a trial with Stoke City Girls Centre of Excellence . She was successful so I started going along to watch training and games , and then my daughter showed an interest in watching the Stoke City Ladies side , so we began to watch them together , home and away .
In 2009 , I left Rocester and the new Head Coach of Stoke City Ladies contacted me for some advice on a regular basis . The Head Coach position ultimately became available and as Stoke City Ladies were aware of my credentials at Rocester they asked if I would step in on an interim basis . That interim basis went on a little longer than I expected !
When my daughter graduated from the Centre of Excellence I decided to step down from the head coach role but after a year I returned to assist the new Coach Andrew Frost , ultimately taking the reserve team coach role . I ’ ve only very recently retaken the head coach position after Frosty stepped aside .”
The Role
“ For me , the most rewarding part of my role is to see a young player grow and break into the first-team . Having been the reserve team coach for a number of years I ’ ve seen a number of players achieve this and I ’ m now looking forward to working with them in the first-team .
