Guilsfield Guilsfield FOOTBALL CLUB T he current form of Guilsfield FC was first established on August 6th 1957 when Bill Laker among others got together to form a side. Based at their Community Centre Ground near Welshpool in Powys they have certainly come a long way since then and their first team now competes in the Huws Gray Alliance League. So far this season their first team has made a promising start to their league campaign, compiling a record of five wins, two draws and two defeats from their nine matches. This sees them sitting in the top half of the table with seventeen points on the board. This should provide them with a solid platform from which to build as they look ahead to the rest of the campaign. As long as they are able to keep their current squad together and fit they will have a good chance of a successful season. One of the highlights of the team’s performances so far this time around has been the attacking brand of football that they have been able to produce. This has been reflected by the fact that they have found the back of the net twenty three times already at a rate of more than two per game. This will certainly have meant that any supporters attending their games will have been well entertained and should encourage more of the local community to get behind the side in the future. This in turn has the potential to provide them with a valuable source of additional revenue. Guilsfield is not a club to focus solely upon their senior section however and this is reflected by the fact that they also have a number of youth sides in place. These teams look to provide young players from the local area with an opportunity to play the game in a safe and enjoyable environment whilst helping them to reach their full potential. It is important for any club looking to be successful over a sustained period of time to be able to produce their own talent and this is an area that they appear to have covered. It will certainly be exciting to see how their juniors can develop in the coming years. There is much to admire about the fine set up that Guilsfield currently has in place. So long as they continue in the same manner they should be able to look forwards to a bright and successful future.
