ormed in 1947, Easington United AFC is one of the oldest village football clubs in
East Yorkshire. Easington is situated near Spurn Point at the mouth of the Humber
Estuary, an area known locally as “the east end of Holderness” from which the football
club derives its nickname.
After beginning life in a local competition,
‘The Eastenders’ have been members
of the East Riding County League since
the mid-1950s. The first major trophy
didn’t come along until 1990/91 when
legendary boss Mike Wilson led his team
to the Division 3 title; this despite the
shock death of record goal scorer Melvin
Douglas during the campaign.
Steady progress culminated in promotion
to the Premier Division in 1998/99. That
season also saw their first County FA Cup
success, courtesy of a 5-0 win over AFC
Darleys in the East Riding Intermediate
Cup Final.
Elected to the Humber Premier League
as founder members in 2000/01, the
Eastenders came close to a memorable
double

2003/04
when

McLaughlin’s side won the League Cup
but were pipped by Hutton Cranswick in
the title race.
