tow AFC has made a storming
start to their new league
campaign, winning three and
drawing one of their first four matches.
We recently caught up with their
Secretary Tommy McCall to find out
what has been behind their good start.

Atmosphere
“The Off-season went very quietly!
Holidays and work commitments have
hindered pre-season with mainly part
‘squads’ training on Tuesdays and
Thursdays. The whole squad only really
came together for pre-season friendly
matches on the Saturday.”
He told us, “The mood here is pretty
buoyant, we retained the Waddell Cup
last season which all Border Amateur
clubs compete in. We were also beaten in
two other semi-finals and finished in the

The Off-season
2016/17
“We’re targeting a clean sweep! Seriously
a league title would be great as would
retaining the Waddell Cup for the 3rd
time in a row – both big asks but possible,
I’ll tell you in nine months if it happens.
We also want to do well in the national
trophy, the Scottish Amateur Cup,
historically Borders clubs don’t do well in
the competition so it would be good to get
a run.
