Penycae Penycae FOOTBALL CLUB B ased on Afoneitha Road in Wrexham, Penycae FC’s first team currently competes in the Welsh National League (Wrexham Area) Premier Division. They are led by First Team Manager Ian Andrews and are looking to progress under his guidance. So far this season it would be fair to say that they have not perhaps got off to the start that they would have liked, having put together a record of two wins and five defeats from their seven matches. This has left them sitting in the bottom half of the table with six points on the board. There is still plenty of time to turn things around however and a good run of results would see them quickly climb the table. As long as they can keep their current group of players together and perhaps make one or two quality additions they should be in with a good chance of a successful season. Penycae is not a club to focus solely upon their senior section and this is reflected by the fact that they also have a fine youth set up. This part of the club looks to provide youngsters from the local area with an opportunity to play the game in a safe and enjoyable environment whilst helping them to reach their full potential. It is important for any club looking to be successful over a sustained period to be able to produce their own talent and this is an area they appear to have covered. It will certainly be exciting to see how their youngsters can progress in the coming years. In order to make sure they enjoy a smooth transition into the senior game they also run a reserve side. This allows them to gain experience of adult level football even if they are not yet considered ready for first team action which can be a vital step in the development process. Another benefit of having an extra side is that it allows the first team to benefit from far greater strength in depth. If they are ever short on numbers through injury or suspension they have the option of calling up replacements with a limited amount of disruption. Although Penycae FC would have liked a couple more wins on the board at this point in the season their set up behind the scenes is superb. If they continue in the same manner improved results on the field are sure to follow. Think Timber, Think ETC For almost 60 years timber has been our passion.
