okingham and Emmbrook Youth FC is an FA Charter Standard Club that runs boys and girls teams from the under 7 age group through to under 18 . Their teams compete in a variety of local leagues and they are always keen to welcome boys and girls to the club regardless of their ability .
The club was first established in 2004 following a merger between Wokingham Town and Emmbrook Sports and are affectionately known by their supporters as “ The Satsumas ” relating to their orange and black strips .
Wokingham Town had a proud history before the merger , having achieved plenty of success including winning the Isthmian League First Division in 1980-81 . They also reached the first round of the FA Cup in 1982-83 and the semi-finals of the FA Trophy in 1987-88 . They had a number of famous players including Darren Barnard , Paul Bence and Phil Alexander . Emmbrook Sports can also be proud of their heritage as long term members of the Reading League .
In their current form they have built a reputation as being a local , progressive set up , stating on their official website , www . wokinghamandemmbrookfcyouth . com that their mission statement is , “ To enable every football player to reach his or her full potential whilst ensuring enjoyment of all aspects of the game .”
It is important for the future of the game in this country that the next generation of players is encouraged to participate and this is clearly something that Wokingham and Emmbrook has covered as they continue to provide players with a safe and enjoyable environment in which to play . It will certainly be exciting to see how their juniors can progress over the coming years .
With a range of committed and qualified FA coaches they are always keen to help people develop in this area and recently hosted a CPD event for FA Level 1 and FA Level 2 coaches . Danniel Fenner ( BBFA County Coach Educator and Adam Morris ( FA Skills Team ) took the two hour theory and practical workshop .
It looked at the key principles ‘ out of possession ’ including transitions to and from possession . In total 29 local grassroots coaches attended the event and it was deemed to be a huge success .
One of the things that makes Wokingham and Emmbrook such a special club is their commitment to playing an important role in their local community . One such example is the 6-a-side tournament that they host which attracts approximately 200 teams .
They also take part in a number of community events such as the Winter Carnival and continue to offer a range of social events for all members , family and friends .
Clubs such as Wokingham and Emmbrook Youth FC play a vital role in their local communities and the volunteers that make them a success deserve a tremendous amount of credit for the work that they do . Hopefully they will be able to continue in the same manner for many years to come and if they do they are sure to be able to look forward to a bright and successful future . Football Focus Magazine wishes them the best of luck .
