As a club they have made superb progress under the guidance of Chairman Joe Burlison and President John Tomlinson. Their performances last season surprised many as they stormed to promotion, winning twenty eight, drawing six and losing just eight of their forty two matches. This saw them finish in third place in the league with ninety points, beating off the challenge of some quality sides below them. Promotion was a superb achievement for the club and they will now be looking to build on this in their new surroundings. As long as they are able to retain their current group of players and can perhaps make one or two quality signings they should be in with a good chance of retaining their Division 1 status. It would be fair to say that they have not perhaps enjoyed the start to the campaign that they would have liked however having won one, drew one and lost nine of their first eleven matches. This has left them sitting second from bottom in the league. Chester-le-Street Town is not a club to focus solely upon their senior section however and they are a great example of a family club providing people in their local area of all ages an opportunity to play football in a safe and enjoyable environment. In total they have 22 youth teams, as well as a reserve side and two female teams. Indeed, their youth section is one of the standout features of their set up. This is reflected by the fact that there has been a steady flow of players from the club to have gone on to play for professional clubs or to represent the club at first team level. It is important for any club to be able to produce their own talent if they are to be successful over a sustained period and this is an area they appear to have covered. It will certainly be exciting to see how their current group of youngsters are able to progress over the coming years. Although Chester-le-Street Town’s first team has not enjoyed the start to the league campaign that they would have liked this time around they appear to be a club that has everything in place to enable them to look forward to a bright and successful future. “Spending my day sorting out my insurance is a great use of my time.” - Said nobody.
