A good time is sure to be had by everyone involved as they celebrate what they’ve accomplished over the course of the season. Bamber Bridge’s commitment to playing an important role in the local community is highlighted further by the Annual Football Tournament at the Sir Tom Finney Stadium that they host. The Under 12’s competition will be held on the 7th May this year with 6-a-side games taking place whilst the Under 10’s will compete a day earlier in 7-a-side matches. Competitions such as these provide a great platform for young players to demonstrate their skills and are always an enjoyable experience. There is a lot of work that goes into making sure that they run smoothly and the volunteers at Bamber Bridge do a fantastic job of laying on such a great spectacle. There is much to admire about the superb work that Bamber Bridge JFC has been doing lately and club’s such as these are absolutely crucial to the longevity of the English game. Everyone at Football Focus Magazine would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the club on their fine work and wish them the best of luck for the future. have also made the final 13 times more. Their 3-2 victory over Saltash United was the club’s first appearance in the final of the competition since 1972 whilst their last appearance was in 2011 when Bodmin Town emerged victorious 3-2. Over the years they have had many terrific players represent the club and one who stood out was Mike Bickle who broke the South Western League scoring record with 65 in a season. The following year he bagged himself 89 goals including 9 against Nanpean. Bickle got his reward with a move to Plymouth Argyle in 1965. A club that achieves the longevity of St Austell certainly doesn’t do so without having a superb set up off the field and their current Committee continue to do everything possible to help them to progress. In recent times they have put a lot of work into improving their facilities with the introduction of floodlights at a home game against Buckland Athletic in front of a crowd of 556. There is much to admire about AFC St Austell and it is great to see such a likeable club being rewarded with some superb results on the field.
