orinthian-Casuals FC is
a club steeped in history
based around the ideals of
playing the game the right
way. They are revered
heavily in Brazil thanks to their role
in the founding of two time FIFA
World Club Champions Corinthians
Paulista and have just returned from
a weeks tour where they were mobbed
everywhere they went.
Executive Committee Member Stuart
Tree took the time to tell us how the club
has been getting along in the present day,
saying, “I first started going to Casuals
matches in the late 90s. I used to work
in a nearby tower block on Saturdays
whilst at University and we’d often
finish before 3pm. I’d already followed
another local side (Kingstonian) but a
colleague and I decided to check out the
Casuals who played nearby.
I remember Casuals won 3-0 and I was
hooked. I solely remained a supporter
until a few years ago when I started
taking my camera to matches. Before
long, I was regularly photographing
the side. I then became the programme
editor, website editor, set up the social
media channels (our Facebook page
now has 150,000 followers – that puts
us in the top 20 supported teams in
the UK) and now sit on the Executive
Committee. I love every moment of it
(well, almost) and being part of such a
spirited voluntary community is very
rewarding.
