Albion Rovers
FOOTBALL CLUB
A
lbion Rovers underwent
a significant amount of
change at boardroom level
at the start of the season
and the changes have had a significant
impact on the club as they now sit
proudly atop Scottish League Two as
the campaign reaches its climax. We
caught up with Chairman Pat Gillooly
to find out what has been behind their
success.
Involvement
He told us, “I joined the club in October
2013 as a Director and soon became
Vice-Chairman. It’s a local club for me
and my family; my two sons, my brother
and his two kids follow the club and
so when the opportunity came to join
them I was delighted to take it. It can
be a difficult job but it is all worthwhile
when they’re winning and what we’re
doing is working. When everyone at the
club is smiling and enjoying what we’re
doing it’s a great place to be.”
This Season
“The mood at the club is good at the
moment; the players are pretty upbeat
and a few key members of the squad
coming back from injury recently
has given us a real boost. I think the
key for us this season has been hard
work. There’s a really good team spirit
amongst the players and they are looked
after by a very competent management
team with experience of competing
at a higher level. We try to make it as
professional as we possibly can and the
mix of quality coaching, discipline and
hard work have led to us gaining some
good results.”
Ambitions
“To win the league would be fantastic
and we’re certainly in with a chance.
The problem we have in our league is
that any team can beat anyone else at
any time as has been proved. I would
be delighted to take the title and that
is what we’re hoping to achieve in the
remainder of the season.”
Youth
“We’ve employed Tony McMinn who
has a lot of experience working on the
development of young players with the
remit of trying to adapt a youth system
for Albion Rovers by working with
some of the clubs in the area to try and
bring them into our set-up.
