I
FOOTBALL CLUB
t has been a fantastic season for everyone associated with
Bonnyton Thistle FC. Football Focus Magazine recently caught
up with Club Representative Colin Kennedy to find out more
about the good work that they’ve been doing.
Involvement
Colin told us, “I have been at the club
for twelve years this season. My 7-year-
old son was looking to play football
for a local team and as I grew up in the
Bonnyton area, I wanted him to play
there and be part of the infrastructure of
that community club.
I started as a parent on the side-
lines and then was asked to take part in
coaching and managing the 2000 year
age group. I sat my SFA coaching exams
and really enjoyed the experience. For
the last few years I have been a member
of the trustees board and get involved in
all day to day aspects of the club.”
The Role
“Assisting with our sixteen teams
and volunteer coaches can be a challenge
at times as everyone has different levels

of personal commitments, which is
understandable. The rewarding side of
my role is when I drive in to any of our
two facilities and think, we built this! For
volunteers to build, not only an excellent
community club, but a second state of
the art facility that has our own 400 m2
clubhouse and FIFA 2 star astro turf
pitch is quite an achievement.”
Present
“Everyone is full of energy and
passion at the moment, with silverware
success from our professional team and
at all our grassroots teams also. The
season has gone reasonably well, with a
few minor hiccups along the way due to
player availability and injuries, the same
at most clubs. Finishing second is a great
achievement for the team only in its
second year and winning the Alba Cup
was a bonus too.”
