FOOTBALL CLUB
Westfield FC has been making tremendous progress in recent
times and enjoyed another fine season this time around. Football
Focus Magazine recently caught up with their Secretary Michael
Lawrence to gain an insight into their success.
Michael was a football referee
from the age of 25 till 49, back then
FA Legislation dictated he could
not referee beyond the age of 49.
He recently spoke to Football Focus
Magazine about his long love affair
with Football, saying, “I couldn’t
really bear being off the pitch
when I stopped refereeing and
shortly afterwards I was invited
onto the Westfield FC committee
which has been fantastic and I am
the current club Secretary. Moving
up to the Bostik leagues has been
exciting, bringing with it very many
40 Issue 85
challenges but I have to say our lads
have competed excellently since last
season’s promotion.”
“Tony Reid, our manager, has
been with us four years now and
has made the necessary changes
for our team to progress. Tony is an
excellent manager and after we lost
so many players after last season’s
promotion it is testament to him, his
lads and the club their great resolve
and how well they have competed
this season.
“Although not everyone agrees
with me I feel we really punch above
our weight, in a good way. We are
also very fortunate to have such a
great committee and the friendliness
of the club that attracted me to it
many years ago still stands firm
today.
“Next season the lads will go for
promotion and why not! I would
encourage everyone to keep pushing
forward and we will perhaps go
further again in the 2019/2020
campaign!”
They compiled a league record of
twenty-one wins, seven draws and
ten defeats from their thirty-eight
