THE ALLURE OF E K A E P A S E H C Welcome to Annapolis, one of America’s most historic cities con- nected by its status as America’s Sailing Capital, Maryland’s State Capitol and home to the United States Naval Academy. Annapolis is a mecca for people with a passion for waterborne fun featuring a host of public cruises, private charters, kayaking, canoe- ing, paddle boarding, sailing schools, regattas and weeknight Sailboat races. The United States Naval Academy sits in the heart of Annapolis and offers plenty of ways to learn more about this American institution and its proud heritage. You can explore the “Yard” on your own or with a guided tour that provides an up- close glimpse of midshipman life. Annapolis is a walkable “ Museum without Walls” town boasting more 18th-century brick Georgian homes than anywhere in the coun- try. Maryland’s State House is the oldest in continuous legislative use in the nation and is the only state house to serve as our coun- try’s Capitol, when the city reigned as the nation’s first peacetime cap- ital. Not surprisingly, all four of Maryland’s signers of the Declara- tion of Independence had homes in Annapolis and each are still standing, with three of them open to the public. 94 | Summer 2017 | Food Traveler ANNAPOLIS, MD
