Ellensburg offers a quiet side to those who may not be rodeo-prone. In July, you can look forward to Wine in the Val- ley, where you will be able to take part in a tasting at Gallery One for just $12. The event includes a souvenir wine glass and will feature the northwest’s premium local wines. Stop by the monthly Farmers Market, which is lo- cated in the heart of town. Here, you’ll be able to buy locally-grown produce and wares, along with beautiful hand- crafted products. Enjoy live entertain- ment, like jugglers and local musicians, while you browse the vendors. Astoria Historical Museum in The Goonies Head just south to Astoria, Oregon for a bit of western history and one heck of a view. Astoria rests on the southern banks of the Columbia River, and is the oldest American settlement west of the Rocky Mountains. The city used to be a fur trading post, but now boasts some of the most incredibly scenic views in the region. Astoria, Oregon Parasailing, kayaking, hiking, and fishing are all very popular summertime activi- ties in Astoria, as the land is booming with evergreens and wide open, moun- tainous terrain. You may know Astoria from the famous movie, The Goonies. The Oregon Film Museum has an exten- sive exhibit list for a variety of movies that were filmed on the land, but you can relive the actual Goonies movie here. Take a self-guided tour to places like the bowling alley where Chunk saw the po- lice chase, or “stage your own breakout” at the Clatsop County Jail, which is now the actual building that the film museum resides in. Kick back and relax with a craft beer from the Astoria Brewing Company after your long day of touring and sightsee- ing. The Astoria Brewing Company has an eclectic and tasty lineup of beers to choose from, including the Bitter Bitch Imperial IPA, and the Trolley Stop Stout, which is a dark malt with a hint of choco- late. At 6.7% ABV, it is the strongest beer on the menu. Order the cheesy beer fondue to pair nicely with your beer, or a Halibut burger, if you’re feeling adven- turous.
