Most people think of California when the western part of the United States is mentioned in conversation , but there is much more to the region than the “ West Coast ” lifestyle . Head to Ellensburg , Washington for a completely unique experience . Ellensburg is the home of the Ellensburg Rodeo , which was founded in 1923 , and airs on ESPN . Nearly 30,000 fans and spectators come to the Ellensburg Rodeo for a great show and a good time .
During the rodeo , Ellensburg becomes quite packed with tourists from all over the country , so you may want to start making reservations or accommodations now if you ’ re interested in attending the event . The event will be happening this year on Labor Day weekend , from September 1 st , to the 4 th . The county fair will also be active during this time , so it is a great weekend to plan a getaway . Patriot Night at the rodeo will be on the 1 st , and the rodeo show lasts for approximately 3 hours each day .
On the 2 nd , there will be a western parade downtown , along with the Xtreme Bulls Tour Finale , which will be televised . During the finale , 40 of the world ’ s most talented bull riders will enter the rodeo to compete for a chance to win $ 100,000 . The bulls in the competition are some of the highest-ranked , oneton animals in the world . After the longgo competition , the 12 best out of the 40 riders will come back to compete for the grand prize .
Along with the Xtreme bulls competition , there will be specialty acts performed as well , such as The One Armed Bandit , John Payne , who will be performing several stunts during his show , which includes longhorns , wild horses , and even buffalo .
