Food Quality Magazine ISSUE 02 | AUTUMN 2014 Introduction Welcome to the second issue of Food Quality Magazine. If you see this magazine for the first time, you may ask the question, “Why another magazine?“, and you are right. There are plenty of magazines on food quality and food safety topics. On the other hand, from 20 years auditing experience, it is clear that there is a huge number of food companies, for which it is not easy to follow all necessary information in this time of information boom. They are constantly looking for information sources, which will keep them up to date in the important areas to ensure their food safety and quality management systems are well developed, implemented and up to date to the latest requirements of the standards applied. This was the reason, QUALIFOOD, company with decades of experiences from consulting and auditing to GFSI approved standards decided to publish the magazine. The magazine is focused on key standards used in the food industry in area of food quality and safety. The GFSI`s (Global Food Safety Initiative`s) approved standards are one of the most important standards in the food industry. You will find in our magazine regular updates on the BRC, IFS, FSSC 22000, SQF, GlobalGAP standards, together with articles describing the implementation of individual requirements. In this issue, you will find an interesting article describing activities of Global Food Safety Initiative by Chris Anstey. Food fraud is also an increasingly discussed topic. Therefore, you will find here two articles on food fraud. The first is by John Hnatio from FoodQuest TQ LLC, presenting his new book and solution, developed to help all parts of food chain to minimize the food fraud occurrence. The second is by Mitchell Weinberg from INSCATECH, one of the members of the GFSI Food Fraud Think Tank. In the article, Weinberg discussed about Elliott`s report on food fraud in the UK. Other topics covered are advances in food safety and quality by Suzanne Milligan from NEOGEN Europe Ltd.; Cronobacter as a microorganism of growing food industry concern by Seth Keller from Siliker Inc.; feedback from food safety recalls by Ron Wacker from SGS Consumer Testing Services; update on “gluten-free“ labeling legislation by Cesare Varallo; and information about new Declaration of Abu Dhabi on good agricultural practices. In regular sections “Food Industry News“, “Food Safety Crises“ and “Events“, you will find updates on important news, events and crises relevant to the focus of our magazine. I believe you will find this magazine useful in your daily work. If so, the magazine will fulfill its goal, which is to help the food companies by providing them important and up to date information in the simple, understandable and practical way. We decided on free subscription to enable all sizes and levels of companies, from any part of the world, access to information. If you enjoy the magazine or any specific articles, we would be happy if you share them with your colleagues and on social media. Miroslav Šuška How to Subscribe for FREE?
