UK - Ragu White Lasagne Sauce for incorrect pH level
(Source: FSA) Symington‘s Ltd is recalling one date code of its Ragu White Lasagne Sauce, because some jars have been produced with an incorrect pH level. This may present a microbiological
food safety risk to consumers.
There are small proportion of jars in which the measured pH results do not comply with food
industry safety standards for pasteurised products. Customers are advised not to consume the
product.

Germany - glass fragments in sliced mushrooms from China
(Source: RASFF) German authorities ordered recall of sliced mushrooms in jar originated from
China after consumer complaint.
Consumers were warned not to consume the product as it may contain small fragments of glass.

Europe - horse meat again
(Source: European Commission) 2,622 tests were carried out by the competent authorities in
the 28 EU countries, Norway, Iceland and Switzerland to detect traces of horse meat DNA in
beef products. The tests were carried out between April and July 2014. Of those tests, only 16
revealed positive traces of horse meat DNA.
Testing was carried out according to Commission Recommendation of 27 March 2014 on a second coordinated control plan with a view to establishing the prevalence of fraudulent practices
in the marketing of certain foods. Positive traces of horse meat DNA in beef were found in the
samples from the following countries: Bulgaria (4x), Germany (1x), Spain (1x), Latvia (2x), Hungary (4x), Portugal (3x), SIovenia (1x).

USA - turkey breasts contained undeclared allergen
(Source: USDA) Puritan Foods Co., Inc., a Boston, Mass., establishment, is recalling approximately 2,476 pounds of raw boneless turkey breasts due to misbranding and an undeclared allergen,
the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today.
The product contains milk, a known allergen, which is not declared on the product label.
The following product is subject to recall: Raw Boneless Turkey Breasts (various weights) with
pack dates of June 11 and July 18, 2014.
The product was produced on June 11, 2014, and July 18, 2014, and bears the establishment
number “P-5933” inside the USDA mark of inspection. The product was distributed to a local distributor, which sold the product to hotels, restaurants and institutions in the New England area.
FSIS personnel discovered the problem while checking product labels. The source materials typically used by the firm do not contain milk. On the two dates in question, the source materials
used declared they were “butter basted,” which was not carried over to the finished product
label. Milk is a sub-ingredient in butter and must be noted on the label.

UK - pitted black olives with possible contamination with glass
(Source: FSA) Sainsbury‘s recalls its by Sainsbury‘s pitted black olives 350g due to possible
contamination with small pieces of glass.
“It has been brought to our attention that a very limited number of jars of the above product
may contain small pieces of glass“, Sainsbury`s said.
