State Aboriginal
Women’s Gathering
THE THIRD State Aboriginal Women’s
Gathering of 2016 will be held in Coober Pedy
later this year. These gatherings provide a
culturally supportive environment for Aboriginal
and Torres Strait Islander women to discuss
issues and have their say.

One gathering has already been held this year
at Renmark, while another will soon be held at
Murray Bridge.
The theme of the 2016 gatherings is
“Empowered by Knowledge”. They feature
information about Commonwealth and State
Ombudsman’s offices and services provided
to the community, as well as a presentation by
Amnesty International about the UN Declaration
on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.
The gatherings are hosted by the Office
for Women, which works closely with the
delegate-elected State Aboriginal
Women’s Gathering Working Group
to create linkages between
metropolitan and regional areas.
