Back inside the apartment, Jim watched from Rachel’s lap as Jo came back in and approached them both, stopping just at the edge of the table, very close to them. The petting stopped, and he removed himself by jumping from the chair to the floor, then moved across the hardwood of the apartment across the living room and to a window that looked out to the courtyard outside. He stayed there for some time, sitting, not lying down, almost as if he was looking for something, or waiting for someone to return.
