September 16 First Muster The Florida National Guard and Florida Department of Military Affairs , in partnership with Florida Living History , will commemorate the 451 st anniversary of the first militia mustering of America ’ s original citizen-soldiers in 1565 and the “ birthday ” of the U . S . National Guard . This anniversary commemoration will begin at 4 p . m . This annual heritage event will take place on the grounds of the Florida National Guard ’ s headquarters in the St .
