March 17 Founding of Fort Mose Fort Mose, founded by Spanish Florida Governor Manuel de Montiano in 1738, was the first legally sanctioned free Black community in the continental United States. This event begins with a reading of the governor’s proclamation that provided freedom to Captain Francisco Menendez and his militia men and established Fort Mose. Then, the site will be blessed by Franciscan Friar Don Joseph de Leon. Doors open at 6 p.m., and the music begins at 7 p.m. Light refreshments and merchandise will be available. Experience a Beatles’ concert the way it was performed more than 50 years ago. 1964: The Tribute focuses on the quintessential moment in history when The Beatles actually played before a live audience. All items are made in the USA. The event is Saturday 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at the St. Johns County Pier Park.
