Photographing birds in flight (BIF) and motion can be challenging for even the
most experienced photographers. This session will break down what settings and
techniques may work best for you with regard to photographing birds in flight. Via
warm, friendly and supportive instruction, this class will help get you on your way to
photographing birds in motion beautifully!
Designed for those with DSLR and mirrorless cameras, we will focus upon the
following skills::
• Focus settings: AF-C or AI Servo
• Setting the proper focus point
• Best aperture and shutter speed settings for photographing birds in motion
• Finding the bird in the frame before you can photograph it
• Composition, panning, and related techniques for artistic effect
• How to envision the design, look and feel of your image prior to shooting
• Hands-on practice in-the-field, and more

Luckily, this class has something to offer just about anyone with a camera! Whether
or not you have “long lenses,” this class will give you much-needed inspiration to
create art with your bird photography and expand your senses to think past just the
“tight, close-up shots!” Focusing on key elements of composition – with an emphasis
on using positive and negative space, we will create emotionally evocative images
that leave lasting impressions with your audience and potentially open up new
markets for your work!

Expand your creativity! A whole new world of photography, creativity, and fun
opens up when you break the boundaries of traditional imagery and explore
photographing abstracts!
Abstract photography is all about taking the everyday objects and transforming
them into something creative and mostly unrecognizable in comparison to their
original form. Through instruction, hands-on work, and inspiration from your instructor
and fellow participants, you will learn how to apply basic compositional guidelines
while using a variety of lenses to create abstract images using motion blur, patterning,
contrast, shadows, color theory, textures, edges, and more to design images that are
artistic, ethereal, and fun!
This session is always full of laughs, freedom, and creativity. It’s a great class for any
level of photographer with any camera.

As an increasing number of birders and nature enthusiasts are turning to
photography, the choices can be overwhelming for gear and accessories. This session
will introduce the main categories of cameras available, as well as the pros and cons
of each type of camera--from point- and-shoots, DSLR and mirrorless cameras -- and
even digiscoping. You’ll learn the basic terminology, key pros-and-cons of each type
of camera, and how to determine your needs so that you select what’s right for you.
Tips for selecting tripods, tripod heads, and truly helpful accessories will also be
provided---all with a practical, budget-minded perspective so that you get what you
need without over-buying gadgetry.
**A note about Alligator Farm Field Workshops
The Alligator Farm REQUIRES an ANNUAL PHOTO PASS for this workshop. **If you
need a Photo Pass then please purchase our “I NEED AN ALLIGATOR FARM PHOTO
PASS” ticket and a Photo Pass will be ordered for you. You will only need to buy
the pass one time and it’s valid for one year. 2019 Alligator Farm passes are $118.
Festival Organizer Note About Field Workshops: We want you to enjoy and learn as much as you can in your field workshops. Therefore, it is important to arrive early and have all of your gear ready to go
so you do not miss out or hold up the group. Each field workshop will begin with a 10 minute overview of the subject and techniques. Suggested gear lists are included with each field workshop.
