From the launch of Phase II of the Innovation Hub to an all-time high in technology licenses , the University of Florida ( UF ) is making lasting contributions to the economic prosperity of Gainesville , The Corridor and the Sunshine State .

Most notably , UF was awarded an impressive $ 724 million in research funding this past fiscal year , up $ 17 million from the year prior . That sets a new funding record for our university , highlighting the achievements of our faculty in research and scholarship . Many of these grants were awarded by the National Institutes of Health to fund critical projects that could lead to new discoveries , treatments and cures .

We are excited for even more research to be conducted at UF in the new Herbert Wertheim Laboratory for Engineering Excellence . Once complete , the facility will provide 84,000 square feet of space for research and educational opportunities – complete with prototyping labs , collaboration spaces and a state-of-the-art biotech lab designed to engineer solutions for cancer and other diseases .

Looking ahead to the future , we see promising growth in technology commercialization as well . The UF Office of Technology Licensing signed a record 122 licenses and options this past year – up an incredible 43 percent from the year before . UF also launched 17 startup companies , and continues to support high tech growth with the future opening of Phase II of the Innovation Hub at Innovation Square . This expansion will double the space for startups to take flight and enable UF to create and grow innovative , high tech companies .

UF continues to set the bar higher and achieve ambitious goals each year , but it wouldn ’ t be possible without the partners , faculty , staff and students who are instrumental to the university ’ s success .
