The University of South Florida ( USF ) continues to soar in so many exciting ways , setting our sights higher as we go . Propelled by a new record in research funding , USF reached a major milestone in 2015 with an impressive $ 458.5 million in grants and contracts for innovative , high tech research . This notable figure puts the USF System in the top 25 public research universities in the United States and underscores our ability to translate powerful research into practical applications .
With the Morsani College of Medicine and USF Health Heart Institute set to move to Downtown Tampa in just a few more years , our university is attracting the best and brightest medical students from around the world . During the 2015-16 academic year , the college enrolled its largest and strongest class yet – and that trend is poised to continue . Once the relocation is complete , this transformative initiative will strengthen the university ’ s presence in the downtown business district and allow us to expand essential educational and research programs .
Designated as an Emerging Preeminent university in June 2016 , USF is working diligently toward its goal of achieving full Preeminent status by 2018 , and the success of this past year puts us that much closer . Earning this notable distinction will allow us to enhance our campuses with state-of-the-art facilities , attract and retain top talent and provide more resources to students , faculty and staff , therefore having an even greater impact on our region , The Corridor and our state .
I am proud to say that the USF System has never been stronger . We have worked deliberately to accomplish our goals over many years , and there is much to look forward to on the horizon .
