From the President

The University of Central Florida ( UCF ) prides itself on being America ’ s Leading Partnership University ® . UCF ’ s growing impact on Florida ’ s economic prosperity stems in large part from the many contributions of our valued partners .
Thanks to alliances with Valencia College , the City of Orlando , Orange County Public Schools and many others , UCF Downtown is on the way . Opening in 2019 , the downtown campus will serve more than 7,700 students and generate $ 200 million + in annual economic impact . For decades to come , UCF Downtown will enhance Central Florida ’ s high tech economy and energize our entrepreneurial community .
UCF ’ s partnerships also continue to grow the region ’ s biomedical industry . UCF selected Hospital Corporation of America , the nation ’ s largest hospital company , to partner with our College of Medicine to build a 100-bed teaching hospital at Medical City in Lake Nona . The hospital will expand the ability of The Corridor to become a medical destination where research , patient care and education are fully integrated .
UCF is also working closely with The Corridor , Osceola County and others to establish BRIDG ( Bridging the Innovation Development Gap ), formerly known as the International Consortium for Advanced Manufacturing Research ( ICAMR ). UCF will play a key role in developing , testing and manufacturing the next generation of advanced sensors , including smart fiber technology to measure light , sound , temperature and more .
These partnerships and more contributed to UCF ’ s designation last year as an Emerging Preeminent University , putting us on a path to earning Preeminent status .
At UCF , we use the power of scale and the pursuit of excellence to create impact as we solve tomorrow ’ s greatest challenges and strive to make a better future for our students and society . Together , through the power of partnerships , we turn the impossible into the inevitable , and I strongly believe that the best is yet to come for Central Florida .
Cordially yours ,
Dr . John C . Hitt President , University of Central Florida
