STEM Alliance Promotes Math & Science
in Local Schools
From its longstanding prominence as the epicenter for Modeling, Simulation
& Training to its emerging recognition as a hub for biotechnology and
cybersecurity, there’s no question that The Corridor is an established high
tech hub. But key to sustaining that growth is enhancing regional STEM
education programs to develop the talent pipeline for these diverse
industries—the driving mission of the STEM Alliance of Central Florida.
The STEM Alliance creates strategic partnerships with business, education
and community organizations to encourage middle and high school
students and teachers in STEM studies. Programs such as The Corridor’s
stemCONNECT are hosted in concert with the STEM Alliance, as well as
recognition events and rewards for students and teachers with a passion for
science and math.
“We want to show students how cool science, technology, engineering
and math are and open their eyes to all the possible careers in these
industries,” said Capt. USN (Ret.) Steve “Snak” Nakagawa, director of
Workforce Programs for The Corridor.
The STEM Alliance partners with the Central Florida School Boards Coalition,
which includes 10 Central Florida school districts and serves more than
850,000 public school students, hoping to shape future researchers,
engineers, chemists, physicists, doctors, inventors and more.
“The Central Florida School Boards Coalition agrees that the STEM Alliance
programs are the most effective, strategic way to achieve this goal and
that, together, we can really get students excited about STEM education.”
