Tackling Concussions
HEAD-ON
A half-century after the University of Florida invented Gatorade®
to battle dehydration, a new generation of UF researchers is taking
aim at another tough opponent: sports-related concussions.
Led by Dr. James Clugston, team physician and assistant professor
in the UF College of Medicine, researchers are wiring football helmets
with sensors that closely track hits in real time and alert trainers
about potential problems. The same technology may also be applied
to protect military personnel and others susceptible to concussions
and brain injuries.
It’s all about improving the lives of people around the world.
For the Gator Good.
