The latest stage in the transformation of Heathrow, Heathrow Terminal 2: The Queen’s Terminal opened in June 2014. Designed with the needs of passengers at its heart and sustainability as a guiding principle, it is central to Heathrow’s vision of making every journey better for its customers. With millions of passengers expected to pass through the terminal each year, ensuring their safety and comfort is paramount. Approximately 2,000m of Gradus’ TEX51R TransEdge heavy-duty stair edgings in Charcoal were installed on staircases in the terminal, providing a hard-wearing solution to help reduce the risk of slips and trips. Developed in line with guidelines in BS 8300:2009+A1:2010, BS 9266:2013 and Approved Document M (ADM) and K (ADK) of the Building Regulations 2010, the products are designed to meet increased demand for reduced risk of accidents on exterior stairs, or heavily trafficked internal stairways close to entrances and access points, such as those at Heathrow. Independently tested for slip-resistance by the Health & Safety Laboratory, the stair edgings offer a low risk of slip in both wet and dry conditions. They have also performed well under accelerated wear and UV weathering tests and have been tested for chemical resistance to ISO175 (SATRA). Suitable for both internal and external use, Gradus’s TEX51R Trans-Edge heavy-duty stair edgings can also be used in conjunction with the company’s TEX Sheets and TEX Tread Plates, providing a fully coordinated Heavy Duty Stair and Floor System that comes with a 10-year manufacturers’ warranty. For neat finishing on landings and walkways, TEX sheet can also be used alongside TEXCR1 for a safe and neat finish. The tread plates and sheet are available in Charcoal (black) only to ensure the optimum 30 points difference in Light Reflectance Value (LRV) is achieved when used in conjunction with Gradus’s heavy duty TEX star edgings. Lynette Bowden, Product Manager for Gradus, comments: “Airports are subjected to high levels of footfall on a daily basis, so creating an environment that is safe and accessible for all passengers is essential. Our TEX51R Trans-Edge stair edgings provided an ideal solution, enhancing the safety and durability of the stairs to give a slip-resistant stair edging that will stay looking good for many years to come.” For more information T: 01625 428922 www.gradusworld.com Floors Magazine 61 June/July 2014
