We talked with Jo Claeys, the author of this
game, to understand a bit more what is
about. He told us that he has always been
passionate about playing with lego, board
games, and playing something to learn.
Using his personal style and interests,
he combined what he likes: playing
and education; to develop this game.
In his own words:
“I would describe Plan B as an experience,
a personal experience of how could one be
in second life or how would one act, react in
reality if reality would be different.
It’s confrontation with yourself and your
own values and the dilemma or rather the
paradox between what you believe and
stand for, and how you put it in practice
in a controlled environment.
“In Plan B there are situations that
unconsciously forces you to make certain
actions that afterwards you did not want it.
I would say that Plan B is an experience on
how we still did not manage to change the
world.
“Second objective is to show that we are
fighting for a better world, for different social
system, justice but then the result of Plan B
is exactly a copy of reality, what we strongly
fight we have strongly recreated in the game.
Plan B it’s an exercise that normally we do full
day: in the morning you really experience
the game as a player, where suddenly you
are responsible for the population.
“Afternoon is used for debriefing and
analyses and closer of all of the process.
There is no age limit, it can be for children,
adults, elder people and all kind of different
social profiles. We always say that minimum
should be 14-15 players to have certain
dynamic and with more than 30 it becomes
more challenging.
“It consists of an introduction, where we
prepare people for the experience and
where we make a link between magicians
and politicians towards making a trip
simulation exercise. Which is basically
based in the assumption that there was
a disaster, and everybody have lost their
country and home.
“There are multiple objectives of this game:
one of them is to create awareness on how
