REVIEW www.FLIGHTSIMMAG.com REVIEW Q400: PRO EDITION MASTERED BY MAJESTIC An Alaska Horizon Q400 sits on the apron ready for push back and engine start. T he Bombardier Q-series originally started life as the de Havilland Canada Dash 8 or DHC-8, first flying in 1984. The aircraft was developed from the de Havilland Canada Dash 7, which was known for it’s extreme STOL (short take-off and landing) capabilities. When developing the Dash 8, de Havilland Canada put an emphasis on developing the aircraft for lower operating costs and improving cruise performance. Models delivered after 1997 have cabin noise suppression and are designated with the prefix “Q”. Realistic exterior The first thing you’ll probably be met with once you’ve finished up the very easy and intuitive process of downloading and installing your new Q400 Pro Edition from Majestic, is the level of detail put into simply making the exterior of the aircraft look and feel realistic and appealing, especially so for such an add-on that you’ll be wanting to spend most of your flying time in the cockpit going through the real-world procedures. Great modelling that makes the aircraft come to life, and excellent paints to round it all off. Boundless experience Of course being the “Pro Edition,” something you’d expect from this add-on is realism. It doesn’t dissapoint. As long as you know what you’re doing, you can fly the aircraft expertly, with all real world procedures. I have yet to find one single button, switch, knob, or gauge that doesn’t function as it should on the real thing! For the immense level of realism you are delivered from the Pro Edition of the Q400, there’s no need to shy away from the products slightly more expensive retail price compared to it’s slightly less detailed cousin (it’s only about $30 USD more). The Q400 Pro Edition HUD in action. High quality HUD Aswell as more advanced and complete systems, another treat included in the Pro Edition from Majestic is the functional heads up display (HUD). The HUD is great for, well, basically everything a HUD is meant for. Takeoff and landings are a breeze with all of the vital information, such as attitude, air speed, altitude, and heading displayed right in your line of sight while on approach. This intuitive, fully functional (obviously) HUD almost makes it worth upgrading to the Pro Edition alone, regardless of all the other numerous enhancements and goodies you get.
