Her friends at GLMS will miss her very much and wish her all the best for her adventures ahead. PRESERVING DR. HAROLD BERG’S BEAUTIFUL MOSAICS Karen Berg and Dena Berg-Nelson, daughters of the late Dr. Harold Berg, visited GLMS headquarters to repair tiles on the beautiful mosaic Aesculapius, which adorns the front entrance to our offices. Dr. Berg’s daughters have been working on mosaics all their lives. They still travel throughout the city of Louisville, and wherever else Dr. Berg’s famous mosaics are preserved, so the mosaics can stay looking their best. “These mosaics were a big part of our childhood, maybe the big- gest.” said Karen. “It was time spent with Dad. He was a surgeon but he loved making these. Every one was donated, he didn’t take money for them.” Karen and Dena reminisced about coming home from school and working in the family basement, arranging and cutting mosaic tiles. Today, Dr. Berg’s mosaics can be seen in Israel, Washington DC and numerous states throughout the country. Aesculapius is one of two Dr. Berg mosaics preserved at GLMS headquarters along with several other important historical pieces in the GLMS Foundation History Room. 4 Karen Berg and Dena Berg-Nelson revitalize the mosaic Aesculapius.
