Flavour-led Weaning: The Scoop | Page 9

WHEN DOES FLAVOUR-LED WEANING BEGIN?

This is not a substitute for spoon-led and baby-led weaning but rather a way to ensure your baby transitions well to solids and develops a healthy love of many foods at the same time, reducing the hard work later on. So spoon-led and baby-led weaning are the ‘root’ for weaning. You should choose which method works best for your baby. Flavour-led weaning recipes work alongside either weaning method to help your baby’s palate flourish into a beautiful, colourful, fragrant flower.

Flavour-led weaning starts from the moment your little one is ready for first tastes – single ingredient purees (from around 6 months/at least 17 weeks). Every new fruit or vegetable baby tries is important for her palate. But don’t linger on a few tastes: flavour-led weaning is about developing little taste buds so food is always interesting. This is why enhancing the taste of food with herbs and spices (from 6 months) is important. If your little one’s palate doesn’t progress, food will become uninteresting.

Tailor your baby’s flavour-led weaning journey using 'The Flavour-led Weaning Cookbook' and the recipes in this book for guidance and inspiration. Wean your baby with flavours close to your culinary heritage for a seamless transition to your family’s meals when baby is 12 months. Or, simply, to keep your little one’s palate as broad as possible.
