Sewing Class

Thuy-my ’ s creativity won awards at the Royal Melbourne Show . Her decoration of the bike took out first prize in the knitting competition .

Donated material has reappeared as dresses , cushion covers and cloth bags .

Thuy-my and Lesley
There has been a very satisfactory number of both ladies and gentlemen attending our sewing classes . Most weeks we have about ten sewers undertaking many different projects . Some weeks our numbers reach twelve . Our clients have a mixture of abilities , some coming for several years , some returning after a break and many new faces .
We were fortunate and very grateful to be given large quantities of quality material as donations . The biggest donor was Queen Clothing in Smith St , Fitzroy . Lots of donated material has reappeared as dresses , cushion covers and cloth bags .
We are grateful to have been able to purchase a new sewing machine . We have also had one of the overlockers serviced . This has been invaluable , as sometimes participants have experienced a certain amount of frustration waiting for machines and having to re-thread and wind bobbins with different coloured thread to match their projects .
A big thank you to Elyse and Nadia . Elyse manages to fit in at least an hour every week despite a busy schedule – a very big thank you for her support and creative sewing expertise . Unfortunately , she will be leaving us in 2012 . We have also recently welcomed Annabel as a very valuable and friendly regular volunteer . More volunteers would make for more flexibility and less pressure on our regulars to come every week . Another competent sewer would also be great for those weeks when an overlocker is giving us a hard time !
