REFUGEE SUPPORT PROGRAM FITZROY CLUBHOUSE This program provides a drop-in and referral service for refugees and migrants. FLN support staff assist in any matters, large or small, that require immediate or long term action. Aside from the services and activities run from FLN, Fitzroy Learning Network is actively linked with other providers and organisations in the community. The Network is closely involved with the work of a number of other community groups and organisations, including the Connie Benn Family Resource Centre, City of Yarra, Fitzroy Police, Neighbourhood Justice Centre, Ecumenical Migration Centre, Fitzroy Primary School, Asylum Seeker Resource Centre, Foundation House, Brotherhood of St Laurence, cohealth formerly North Yarra Community Health, and the Collingwood English Language School. The Clubhouse provides a creative and safe after-school learning environment for young people aged 10 to 18 years from disadvantaged communities, who work with adult mentors to explore their own ideas, develop skills and build their confidence through the use of technology. This program matches volunteer tutors with young adults who are studying school, vocational or higher education courses. Tutors provide educational and other support to those from refugee backgrounds. VOLUNTEER PROGRAM All the programs are supported by teams of volunteers who assist the staff deliver the programs. Our Volunteer Program is an integral part of the Fitzroy Learning Network and we would not be able to reach out to the community to the level that we do without our volunteers. Currently we have over 60 volunteers of diverse background and experience, each contributing in their own way with invaluable support, expertise and kindness. Foundation House has again shown its support throughout the year, providing training for our volunteers on working with refugeesand the refugee experience. COMPUTER CLASSES Classes on using computers and the internet are run several times a week for our community members who require a little extra assistance. SEWING CLASSES These classes provide both access to sewing equipment for our community members and practice in English conversation. 5
