point, you decided you wanted to join
our staff here at Fitness Incentive.
NB: I have always been interested in
working here, and when I got certified,
the chances improved. I like the
atmosphere at Fitness Incentive. I like
the people, the community here. With
other gyms, you walk in, and it's a gym.
It's not a community. F.I. does a lot for its
members, its staff…there's a sense of
completion that Fitness has.
FI: When do you expect to begin working
with clients here?
NB: After the show, I'll get right into it.
I'm looking forward to getting started
here at Fitness Incentive.
FI: Do you expect to train members like
yourself: people who have the ambition
to compete? Or would your potential
clients be of a more general nature
regarding their goals?
NB: I certainly enjoy training people like
myself…people interested in bodybuilding
and even competitions. But I actually
have had a very broad spectrum of
clientele. From kids to seniors, and
everyone in-between. Every person is an
individual, with individual needs. You
must train them according to their goals,
possible injuries and limitations…is
weight loss a factor? Are they trying to
put on muscle? One aspect I really
enjoy is this individualization. Each
person presents a unique challenge.
Each person has something different
that they want out of training. My job
is to recognize these individual
qualities and create an approach to
training that will safely and
methodically produce the desired
results.
FI: What's your training philosophy?
How would you complete the sentence
“I wanted to become a personal trainer
because…”
NB: I have always been inspired by the
people I have worked with. Personal
trainers, coaches…the ways they
motivate people, the way they
interact. And I've always wanted to be
that sort of person myself…to motivate
and inspire people the way I have been
motivated by others. Many people
come to training in part to change
something about the way they look,
but I want them not just to look better
but to feel better and more
comfortable in their own skin. I've had
my fair share of struggles, physically,
with not being happy with the way I
looked, just somewhat uncomfortable
overall. I wasn't necessarily heavy, but
there's that dysmorphia, where you see
something or perceive the absence of
something, where others don't. I've
seen it in bodybuilders, who will look
at themselves and say “Oh, I'm small.”
Well, by no means are you small! And
it's in everybody, whether you're big or
you are small. It's a challenge to teach
people to learn how to overcome these
self-image issues.
FI: So you see the training process as
not merely being about transformation
but also about clarity of vision,
rejecting the dysmorphia.
NB: Yes. One of my clients is tall; she
has a very small frame, and she wants
to put on muscle. So when, for
example, she's doing a triceps
extension, and in the rep she gets a
pump I'll touch it and point it out to
her. Seeing the results herself is
exciting and motivating for her. She
can see and feel the results. It's very
gratifying!

Flying through the air...
Trapeze Yoga
flow, send fresh oxygen to the brain and
be invigorated and inspired!”
Yoga Trapeze (or whatever we wind up
calling it) will launch in mid-January.
We’ll have full details to you before the
end of the year. Stay tuned.
Invasion of the Body Scanner
Digging deeply into the bottom of the
stocking, we found one more special gift
for you...a Styku. What on earth (or
other celestial body) is a Styku, you
might well ask. Styku is a revolutionary
total body scanner. You stand on it and
are slowly spun around on a rotating
platter for about a minute. In that brief
time, Styku scans
your entire body
Styku
down to 1/32nd of
an inch. Moreover,
it’s 76% more
accurate than the
most skilled hand
measurements,
and also calculates
your Body Fat and
several other
health risk factors.
Most significantly,
it allows you to
track your progress
over time, showing
precise changes in
all your
measurements.
We’re excited to be introducing Styku to
our Personal Training program in early
2017. We’ll be announcing programs and
pricing shortly.
