@ FI Queenax Rocks the Gym Gen Next Cor’s Corner by Corinne Brown I’d like to open this issue of Fit to Print with a “thank you.” The Fitness Incentive family has once again been honored with three Best of Long Island winners: Incentives Organic Spa & Salon took home two: Best Day Spa (for the 3rd straight year)and Best Waxing Salon while Eat Smart’s Rachel Ezelius took home her fourth consecutive as Best Dietitian. You’ll probably notice that the title of Best Gym is conspicuously absent; it’s true, Fitness Incentive’s nineyear run as the Best of Long Island has ended. While we were a little disappointed—I guess we had gotten used to winning—we take solace in the fact that you really can’t win them all, although not for lack of trying! We’ll happily and humbly accept the three that we did win, and thank you all again for your long-time generous support. There would be no Fitness Incentive were it not for you, our perennial Best of Long Island members! The installation of the remarkable functional fitness system known, rather oddly, as the “Queenax” continues to send tremors through the gym community. It is a rock star, clearly one of the most popular and effective pieces of equipment (if you can even call a room-sized apparatus a “piece” of equipment) ever installed at FI. Trainers and members have already swarmed to it, and that’s just the beginning. We recently added an upgrade to the Queenax: a “landmine” attachment. For those of you not familiar, the landmine is simply an attachment that accepts one end of an Olympic weight bar on the ground and allows the user to lift and pivot the bar. Sounds simple, but it’s exceptionally versatile, meaning it fits in perfectly on the Queenax. Here's TJ demonstrating a basic rowing move: On the Cover Speaking of fitness families, we’re very excited to be featuring Eileen and Jillian Jacinth on this months cover and lead articles. As many of you know, Eileen is an accomplished instructor and trainer, and has guided her Fantastic Four teams to a record four team championships and many “big fake checks.” We thought it was more than fitting to feature her in the spring edition, with the current Fantastic Four starting up right about the time you’ll be reading this. What’s even more exciting is that this year, she’ll be teaming up with her daughter, Jillian. Fitness Incentive has been around long enough that we’re beginning to see the second generation of instructors and trainers join our ever-growing fitness family. Sure, it makes us feel a little older than we'd probably care to admit, but we also feel incredibly proud to see the next generation following our fitness footsteps. Jillian (see the article on page 16) is already well on her way to establishing herself as a trainer and instructor, not to mention a presence at the front desk. Here’s hoping that the next generation continues reinventing and improving Fitness Incentive for many years to come. Ah yes, the Contest... And while we are on the subject of the contest, let me add a few words about this years model. Each year we survey the contest participants and the trainers to get their feedback about the most recent contest - what they liked, what could be improved. And each year we try to implement changes based on that feedback. Sometimes they work, sometimes not so much. But in general, our goal is to make it better every year. Over the past couple of contests, we got feedback from members and trainers alike that they’d like to see more emphasis on maintenance. Yes, sure, they wanted to keep the motivation of meeting an aggressive short term goal (and looking, well, fantastic for the summer as a result), but they also wanted motivation to maintain their results, and to turn what they learn in the contest into a sustai
