Piloxing & Piloxing Barre @ FI
M
y history with Fitness Incentive
began over 15 years ago. I was
just an enthusiastic member who
enjoyed taking classes. I was instantly
drawn to the friendly nature of the staff
and the clientele. I started working at
the front desk in 2000, and one day
Corinne approached me about teaching
classes. The rest is history. Fitness
Incentive has always been on the
forefront of fitness, bringing the latest
and greatest classes to their customers.
So it is no surprise that when I presented
the idea of bringing Piloxing™ to FI, they
took it in with open arms.
“So what exactly is Piloxing?,” you ask?
Piloxing™ is a cardio fusion of boxing,
dance and standing Pilates principles.
The combination of disciplines creates a
sense of balance, strength and flexibility.
In 2009, Piloxing LLC began providing
group fitness programs using the most
current science-based, cutting edge
research and techniques that burn
maximum calories, build lean muscles
and increase stamina. Piloxing™ is the
brainchild of Swedish dancer and
celebrity trainer Viveca Jensen and the
culmination of her mission to physically
and mentally empower individuals
through fitness. At the core of the
Piloxing fitness program is the power to
attain the self-image that individuals can
use to take charge of their health.
In May of 2010, the Piloxing Academy,
LLC was created to educate and license
fitness professionals to teach Piloxing
fitness programs. Since 2010 Piloxing™
has certified over ten thousand
instructors in over 50 countries around
the world and counting. In 2014,
20
Piloxing™ launched its 2nd program,
Piloxing Barre and in February 2015
the 3rd program, Piloxing Knockout.
The three Piloxing™ programs are very
different in nature, but all incorporate
the Sleek, Sexy and Powerful
components of the original format.
Why is Piloxing™ so unique? Piloxing™
is generally done barefoot. It is not
required, but it is recommended.
Barefoot training enhances active
"footwork" by bringing more sensation
via the sole of the foot. This helps to
improve arch flexibility, posture, and
balance. Active footwork causes more
foot muscles to fire and synch with the
rest of the body which gives you a
greater ability to jump and move. It
also brings awareness to body positions
and movement for all Piloxing moves.
element to the program. The Piloxing™
Barre workout is designed to be a lowimpact, variable intensity class. The
Ballet Barre is used for external support
to initiate more muscle engagement.
This class format combines the element
of boxing and ballet inspired Pilates
moves, which increases muscle
endurance and dynamic flexibility
potential. Like Piloxing™ This is also a
barefoot workout and can incorporate
the ½ pound weighted gloves if you
choose.
Through the years I taught many
different fitness formats including,
cardio kickboxing, urban rebounding,
step, sculpt, BOSU, basic aerobics,
Zumba™ Fitness, Piloxing™ and Piloxing™
Barre. I went on to becoming a health
education teacher and a nutritional
cleansing coach. Of all of the fitness
formats that I have taught, Piloxing™ and
Piloxing™ Barre are two of my favorites.
I became a certified Piloxing™ instructor
on November 3, 2013. I had never taken
a Piloxing™ class, and I didn't know much
about it, but I always like trying new
things, so I thought…why not? Within the
first 5 minutes of the Master Class, I was
hooked. I immediately fell in love with
the intensity of the boxing, the balance,
and core work through the Pilates and
the flexibility and fun that came from
the element of dance. I believe that it is
important for women and men to feel
strong, balanced and healthy. As a wife,
mother, health educator, fitness
instructor and nutritional cleansing
coach, balance is the key to happiness. I
approach every class with the
understanding that all members are at
different fitness levels; therefore I
modify movements to fit the needs of
anyone taking the class.
Join me for either Piloxing™ Barre on
Mondays at 7:00 pm in the yoga room or
for Piloxing™ on Thursdays at 5:00 pm in
Studio 1!
What do you need for this class?
Piloxing™ can be done without the use
of any equipment; however there are
specific Piloxing™ gloves that can be
purchased to enhance your workout.
Piloxing™ gloves are ½ pound weighted
gloves that increase resistance and
control. It is not recommended to use
gloves that are heavier than ½ pound.
The design of the Piloxing gloves
allows your ha nds to have the freedom
to move through each exercise
comfortably. Again, the gloves are not
required but are recommended.
So what is the difference between
Piloxing™ and Piloxing™ Barre? Well
besides the fact that Piloxing™ is in
Studio 1 and Piloxing Barre is held in
the Yoga room, the utilization of the
Ballet Barre brings a whole new
