4) Exercising with makeup. Exercising
while wearing makeup can worsen acneprone adult skin. Leave the makeup off
while exercising and make sure to
thoroughly cleanse the skin after
exercising.
5) Going to bed without washing your
face. Sleeping without cleansing off the
dirt, oils and makeup from your skin can
contribute to acne breakouts.
6) Fabric softener. Chemicals on fabric
softeners on your sheets can also cause
acne to worsen. Opt for detergent that is
free of dyes and fragrance and skip the
softener all together.
7) Diet. Certain foods may worsen
breakout in some people. Dairy products
and junk food diets may be contributing
to acne. Remember that this does not
affect all people. If you suspect that
dairy or any other food causes flare-ups,
discontinue that food for six weeks and
see if your acne clears up.

id you ever hear an old song and it
takes you back to that exact
moment in your life when you first
heard it? You remember where you were,
who you were with and the
circumstances of that day. You find
yourself not only reminiscing but
humming that song for the rest of the
day! You're in a better mood. Good music
has that positive effect on us.
Now imagine a class at FI where that
happens twice a week! I'm talking about
a class at our gym called “Dance Blast
from the Past,” with Victoria Calderone
as the instructor. The music spans from
the 50's to today. Victoria takes requests,
so several of us have begun to come in
with playlists for her to choose from.
The selections change all the time and
it's fun to hear some of our old favorites
played right alongside current tunes –
anything from Jerry Lee Lewis to Elvis,
The Beatles to Bruno Mars and Pharrell
Williams!
There are absolutely no prerequisites to
take this class except for a love of music
and the desire to exercise while having
fun at the same time. There are no age
requirements for this class either. We are
multi-generational, ranging from our 20's
to our 70's. All are welcome!
once too!) No excuses! This class
combines many of the moves we do in
cardio classes with light weights and
basic dance steps. Trust me, if I can
“dance” anyone can!
Another thing that makes this class so
much fun is Victoria. She's one great
instructor! Her inner and outer beauty
both shine through as she makes
everyone feel comfortable and a part
of the class. She has a pleasant
speaking voice as she gives constant
cues and directions to follow her. She
always does it with such grace,
patience and a smile.
If you think this class is too easy, too
difficult or you just can't find the time,
I suggest you be open-minded and give
it a try. I did, and it has become my
favorite class at FI!
PS: If you are ever fortunate enough to
take the class on Wednesday you may
find us in a conga line led by Jerry –
one great guy! Yes, men are invited,
too!
“But I can't dance”, you say. (I said that

8) Regular cleansing with a foaming
cleanser. Controlling oiliness is an
important factor in controlling acne.
There is a direct correlation between the
amount of oil produced by the skin and
the severity of an acne condition. The
best way to control oiliness is to cleanse
the face thoroughly twice a day. A nonfragranced foaming cleanser will help to
remove the excess sebum. In more
severe cases, a foaming cleanser that
contains benzoyl peroxide may be
helpful.
9) Deep-cleansing treatments. Deepcleansing treatments performed at the
spa on a regular basis can have a positive
effect on women that suffer from adult
acne. Use of enzyme products and high
frequency current, gentle extraction,
and proper treatment products will help.
10) Salicylic acid peels. Mild peeling and
exfoliation treatments using salicylic acid
will help to keep pores free of blockage.
Salicylic acid is lipophilic, which means it
is attracted to fat (oiliness). Mild salicylic
peels can be performed regularly and are
a great way to keep acne skin in check.
