Q: I am 39 years old and just started fishing last
year, and I’m hooked... no pun intended. So my
question is “ How do I find deep areas of a lake
or river from the shore with no electronics or
known maps ?”

a: First, let me welcome you to a hobby
that makes no discrimination against age,
gender or economic status. Anyone can, and
everyone should fish. Technological sonar and
expensive boats can certainly give an angler
an edge, but everyone starts from the shore. If
there aren’t maps to help you either, just cast
out that lure and use it to find the structure or
