24 April 10-24, 2020 VOL.39 • ISS. 9 SALTWATER REPORTS BERKELEY Corona Virus Halts Halibut Fishing BERKELEY - Halibut are flowing into the bay and anglers were hooking up while trolling frozen baits throughout the first three weeks of March. As of press time, the seven Bay Area Counties were under a shelter at home order and most boat ramps were closed. On the charter boat scene, most boats were idle in their slips awaiting a break in the COVID 19 outbreak. One thing is certain, once fishing gets underway again both private boaters and charter boat anglers can look forward to excellent potluck action in San Francisco Bay. BODEGA BAY Launch Ramps on Lockdown During Shelter In Place Order BODEGA BAY – Anglers planning on fishing for rockfish after the season opens on April 1 must already have a boat already in the water or plan on fishing off of a kayak because Sonoma and Marin Counties have closed their public launch ramps at Doran Beach and Westside Regional Parks on Bodega Bay, Miller Park Boat Launch north of Nick’s in Tomales Bay, and the Black Point Launch Ramp on Highway 37 on the Petaluma River. If you have a boat in the water at one of the marinas inside of Bodega Bay, you can head out on the opener for rockfish, but you are limited to taking people who live directly within your household. Party boats will not be operating until further notice until the Shelter In Place order is lifted. In addition, Lawson’s Landing at Dillon Beach in Tomales Bay is closed until at least April 8th for day use and camping, and the pier is closed.
