The Spring Lakes Guide
NorCal Trout Angler’s Challenge Visits Lake Pardee On Mar 14 & Oct 10!
T
he hottest trout fishing tournament
series in the country, The NorCal
Trout Angler’s Challenge Series,
is slated to visit Lake Pardee on Mar 14
and Oct 10. Big numbers of rainbows and
perhaps a jumbo brown trout or two will
test the skills of both boaters and bank anglers!
Lake Pardee stands out among California
reservoirs for the fine trout, kokanee and black
bass fishing that it
provides for families
either going on day
trips or camping
adventures there.
With heavy plants
of rainbow trout in
the 1 to 5-pound
range throughout
the season, ninety
percent of the
anglers go there for
the trout or kokanee.
Pardee, an East Bay
Municipal Utility District
(EBMUD) reservoir, is
managed by the Rocky Mountain
Recreation Company. The lake is formed
on the Mokelumne River near Ione in the Mother Lode region and
is planted heavily with rainbow trout throughout the season.
Though the trout average 1 to 1-1/2 pounds, plenty of trophy-
sized rainbows, including some beautiful holdovers, are caught
every year at Pardee.
Rainbows are not the only salmonid caught at Pardee. The lake
features a sleeper wild population of German browns that spawns
in the Mokelumne River.
The other salmonid fishery is for kokanee salmon. The kokanee
are generally known for their numbers than their size at Pardee.
Pardee features some of the best-managed and family-friendly
facilities of any reservoir in the state, with beautifully landscaped
grounds, a well maintained marina and launch ramp and superb
camping facilities.

cost trout fishing event, give Vince Harris a call at (916) 768-0938.

B
lodgett Reservoir is a private fishing
and waterfowl hunting lake located
in Rancho Cordova in Eastern Sacramento
County near the intersection of Grantline and
Jackson roads.
The 50-acre lake is a 30-minute drive from
downtown Sacramento. The lake is closed to
fishing during the three-month mid-winter
duck and goose season.
The reservoir hosts an array of largemouth
bass, crappie, redear sunfish, bluegill and
channel catfish. Bass and catfish are catch
and release only. The limit is four on crappie
and eight on bluegill and redear sunfish.
Fishing will opened for new members on
February 01, 2020. Current members may
fish until March 01, 2020 and then renew.
Due to low rainfall, the lake management
can’t guarantee the lake will be full.
The lake is available to paying duck hunter
groups when closed to fishermen. Goose
hunting is also available. The Waegell Bros.
Ranch also offers dove hunting on 2700 acres
during the first half of the split season.
The reservoir was built across Laguna
Creek in the 1940. George Waegell of the
Waegell family bought it from the Blodgett
family in 1950.
Membership offers fishing from a boat and
shore. No gas engines and no live minnows
are allowed. There are three places on the
lake where you can launch a boat.
The lake is open during the fishing season
seven days a week from sunup to sundown.
